The Left's "God Problem"
The Almighty presents an almighty challenge for their nebulous approach to power
Every once in a while, something occurs to me that clarifies what had been an unclear perception of why things were a certain way. I actually started this column back in 2014 to express a few of those observations, and found I had a lot of them, so 1,000+ columns later, here we are.
Here is one of them from, believe it or not, this morning.
The fall of the Soviet Union, the largest consolidation of subjugated peoples by communist overlords, is directly attributable to one man. That was Pope John Paul II, who was, as you may recall, the first Polish pope. What’s more, he was Polish at a time when Poles were very frustrated with being crushed by communism; when Mikhail Gorbachev was seeking a level of communication with the West; and when Catholicism in Poland was a strong uniting force.
Gorbachev dared not cross the Pope, and as his boot slowly eased off the Eastern bloc, starting with Poland, the people of those nations quickly threw off the yoke of their oppressors. Borders were opened, walls were happily destroyed, and the East quickly became westernized.
The point? Religion in general, and Catholicism in particular (when the pope is a powerful force for freedom) are not just strong forces among the people.
God is a singular absolute.
Get the point? Nothing that man, in this case the communist Soviets, can do, changes the fundamental truth of the word of God. This over here is good. This over here is bad. Right is right, and wrong is wrong, and we understand the difference.
Now let’s toodle over here, where the left is trying to operate. Check out their modus operandi. If you have been paying a shred of attention, you’ll notice that the left’s positions, especially those furthest outside the envelope, are characterized by creating disorder, randomness, or uncertainty.
Right? Open the borders, and don’t worry about who might come over. Two genders? Nope, in left-world there are like 70, and all of them are “normal.” Civil order? Nope — let’s defund the police, let a leftist like George Soros dump millions to elect DAs who won’t prosecute anything and then put criminals out on the street.
Global relations? Obey the views of an America-hating UN to the detriment of the interests of our country. Administer puberty blockers to little children on the grounds that they were “born the wrong gender”? That’s just fine; it blurs the distinction between male and female and, at the same time, makes a mess of what we all felt — and still feel — are absolutes.
Get the idea?
Disorder, randomness and uncertainty are the left’s near-term goals, and we know that they want that so that the people will ultimately be OK with, and seek out, dictatorial power — which the left will oh, so happily provide.
But if the promotion of disorder is meant to open the door to the left swooping in and grabbing dictatorial power, what would be the biggest obstacle to that?
I believe that would be the faith of the people in a higher power, one that tells us that the left’s disorderly approach is wrong, wrong, wrong and should be opposed at its root. A power that the left cannot control.
God is that power.
The left does not know how to deal with God. They were flabbergasted to discover that, after allowing a huge number of Hispanic migrants to cross the open southern border over the past several decades, they were voting their Catholic faith, a generally conservative one. Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) was elected with an actual majority of the Latino vote in Virginia in 2021.
The basic rules for life, that God-fearing people follow whatever their denomination, provide order to our lives. But order is not in the left’s playbook; they seek out ways to promote disorder so that the people will rise up and demand a leftist dictatorship.
The church is the enemy of the left. Order is the enemy of the left. Faith is the enemy of the left. God is the enemy of the left.
When Karol Wotyla became Pope John Paul II, he mesmerized the Polish nation and facilitated their overthrow of the leftist, communist dictatorship there. He was able to be that figure, because he tapped into the faith of the people, a faith that flew in the face of an oppressive regime.
That faith lives here in America as well. The left is well aware that they need to crush our faith to be able to accept the lack-of-values structure they seek to impose.
God is our divine inspiration. Through our faith in Him, we have the strength to reject their ideology. But we must remain vigilant and recognize that their ends are not met while faith endures.
They cannot kill Him. But watch them try.
